Using Laser Foil
Foil can dramatically enhance the look
of your piece, from certificates to invitations. Simply follow the
step-by-step instructions.
-
Select your foil color, see Foil Sheets. We offer five vibrant colors to coordinate or contrast with your paper design.
-
Print your custom copy on your paper. The foil will stick to the laser/copier toner of your copy in a subsequent step.
-
Cut
the foil in strips, just large enough to cover the copy area where you
want the foil enhancement. For best results, place a plain piece of
paper under the foil to add support while cutting. This helps achieve a
more accurate cut.
-
Tape foil (shiny
side up) using the self-adhesive squares to your printed paper and run
through a laser printer, copier, or use our Colorizer Wand. Foil
adhesion increases with heat, so run your foil project after your
printer or copier has warmed up and printed several sheets.
-
After
the paper and foil have been run through your copier or printer, leave
foil in place for 30 seconds before removing it. If the foil coverage
is not consistent, simply place a new piece of the same color over the
complete area and run it through again.
-
The
best paper to use with foil is a standard smooth-finished paper.
Textured or grained papers may cause color loss because of the uneven
paper surface. For best results, use 28 lb. (or lighter) paper.
Tip:
Do not use an inkjet printer. Foil is only designed to stick to
toner, not ink. If you don't have a laser printer, we recommend
the following:
- Print what you wish to foil onto white paper using your inkjet printer.
- Using a copier, copy this document onto the paper you wish to foil.
- Place the Laser Foil on the copier toner, shiny side up.
- Run through copier to adhere the foil to the toner.
